Vintage & Retro Baseball Jerseys
Retro jerseys take the look of 1940s to 1970s uniforms and put it on a fabric that breathes. The flannel texture, chain-stitch script and felt-style numbers are all printed, so the jersey weighs the same as a modern one. Teams order them for throwback nights, old-timers' games and leagues that want a look nobody else has.

The retro details we print
A throwback jersey is a stack of small details. Get three or four of them right and the whole jersey reads as vintage from the stands.
Every detail below is sublimated into 160 gsm polyester interlock. Nothing is glued on, so there is nothing to peel or crack after a summer of washing.
Script names on the chest are the single biggest retro signal. A swooping script with a tail underline under the team name says vintage before anyone sees the texture.
- Cream, off-white or heather base with a printed flannel weave texture
- Script team names with a printed chain-stitch effect, or block felt-look numbers
- Chest stripes, sleeve bands and collar piping in two or three colors
- Full-button front with a fold-down collar, or a pullover with a laced V placket
- Optional sleeve patch rendered as a printed patch, with a stitched-edge look
Era references we work from
Tell us the decade and we build from it. Each era has a handful of features that make it recognizable, and the proof shows the full jersey so you can tweak each element.
You can also mix eras. A fifties script on a seventies pullover is a common request from adult leagues that want something bold but still old-school.
If you already have a rough idea, sketch it on Design Your Jerseys with your colors and team name. Then tell us the decade in the notes. We add the texture, script effect and period trim on the proof.
Old photos help more than descriptions. A phone picture of a grandfather's town team jersey tells us the collar shape, stripe width and font style in one look.
| Era | Base color | Lettering | Signature detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1940s–1950s | Cream or grey flannel look | Chain-stitch script | Single chest stripe, fold-down collar |
| 1960s | Grey or cream, darker trim | Block felt-look numbers | Sleeve bands and collar piping |
| 1970s | Bright solid bodies | Large front numbers | Racing stripes down the sleeve |
| 1980s | Two-tone raglan | Arched block names | Laced V pullover |
Why the flannel is printed, not real
Real wool flannel was heavy, held sweat and shrank. Nobody wants to play a July doubleheader in it.
We print the weave texture instead. Up close you see a fine heathered grain. From the bleachers it looks like flannel. On the body it feels like any of our modern jerseys and dries just as fast.
That also helps in the heat. A throwback game in Fresno or Riverside in late June is still a summer game. The printed version breathes like any modern interlock jersey.
The same goes for the lettering. Chain-stitch script and felt numbers are printed with shading and edge detail, so they read as sewn from a few feet away. For real raised letters, our tackle twill embroidered baseball jerseys are the sewn option.
Picking a throwback palette
Vintage looks depend on muted colors. Bright white and pure primary colors make a retro design look new, which defeats the point.
Cream, grey heather, navy, maroon, forest green and old gold are the usual palette. Any color prints, but we will suggest softer versions of your team colors on the proof.
Pinstripes also fit this era well. If you want stripes running the full length of the body, the pinstripe baseball jersey page has more on stripe spacing and color.
Gold is the color to watch. Bright yellow-gold looks modern, while a brownish old gold looks right for the era, and the proof shows both if you are unsure.
- Swap bright white for cream or off-white on the body
- Use a dusty or deeper shade of your main color for the script
- Keep trim to two colors; old uniforms rarely used more
- Add a thin outline to the script only if the base is light
Front styles: full-button or laced V
The full-button front with a fold-down collar is the most authentic look for pre-1960s designs. It suits full button-up baseball jerseys in fit and feel, since the pattern and sizing are the same.
The laced V pullover belongs to the late seventies and eighties. The lacing is printed by default, with optional real cord lacing on request. A printed lace never comes undone mid-inning, which is why most teams keep it printed.
Buttons on the full-button front are standard jersey buttons in a color matched to the trim. Cream bodies usually get cream or navy buttons, which keeps the front quiet.
Modern fit, old look
The cut is our standard jersey pattern, not a period cut. Shoulders, sleeve length and body length match our other jerseys, so players can wear their usual size.
Players who want the baggy period silhouette can size up one. Check the baseball uniform size chart before sizing up, because one size up adds both width and length.
Sizes run youth YS–YXL and adult S–3XL. An old-timers' team with a wide range of builds can mix every size in one order.
Do not size down for a slimmer look. Retro designs place stripes and script at fixed points on the pattern, and a tight jersey pulls the chest script out of shape.
Who orders retro jerseys
Throwback jerseys suit any team that plays at least one special game a season. They also suit teams that simply like the look and want it as their primary set.
Senior leagues often like the look so much that the throwback becomes the home jersey. If that happens, a reorder can use the same artwork, so new players match the originals.
- Adult leagues building a club identity around an old town team name
- High school programs holding a throwback night or an alumni game
- Old-timers' and men's senior leagues that want a classic uniform
- Travel teams adding a one-tournament alternate
- Charity and fundraiser games that want photos people keep
Planning a throwback night
Retro artwork often needs one extra round of proofing. Script fonts, patch art and stripe placement all get adjusted more than a standard design.
Adult teams on a set game date should read our notes on adult league baseball jerseys for roster and size planning. Then follow the steps below.
Build in a week of slack before the game. A throwback night is usually promoted in advance, so a late box is a bigger problem than for a regular game.
- Collect a photo or two of the era you like, plus your team name and colors.
- Send the roster with sizes, names and numbers in any format.
- Review the proof in 1–2 business days and expect one or two rounds of tweaks.
- Approve and pay the PayPal invoice. Production takes 2–3 weeks from then.
- Allow 2–5 business days for free ground shipping, or 2–4 inside California.
Price per retro jersey
Retro jerseys start at $32.99 with names, numbers and logo included. The base price covers the extra artwork time, and there are no setup or per-color fees.
Discounts use the total pieces in your cart, so retro jerseys combined with pants or socks reach the next tier sooner.
A full throwback outfit with jersey, pants and socks for a 12-player roster puts 36 pieces in the cart. That lands every item in the 10% tier.
| Pieces in cart | Per retro jersey |
|---|---|
| 10–11 | $32.99 |
| 12–23 | $31.34 |
| 24–47 | $29.69 |
| 48–99 | $28.04 |
| 100+ | $26.39 |
Common throwback mistakes
Most problems with retro orders come from mixing modern and vintage details. Check the proof for these before you approve.
Socks get forgotten more than anything. Add custom team baseball socks to the order at the start, not after the jerseys ship.
- Bright white body with a vintage script, which looks like a modern jersey with an old font
- Too many colors in the trim; most period uniforms used one or two
- Modern athletic fonts on the back numbers paired with a 1940s chest script
- Sponsor logos in full modern color on a muted throwback body
- Choosing a pullover for a design based on a button-front era
Finishing the vintage uniform
A retro jersey over modern pants with bright piping looks off. Cream or grey pants with a single thin stripe finish the look. You can add cream or grey custom baseball pants in the same cart.
Stirrup-style socks over a white sanitary are the other half of the period look. Wear the pants knicker length so the stripes show.
Most period photos show a darker stirrup with a white sock underneath. Players who prefer one pair of socks can get a similar effect from a two-tone custom sock.
Care is simple. Wash inside out in cold water and hang dry. The printed texture and script stay sharp because they are part of the fiber.
Vintage & Retro Baseball Jerseys: questions answered
Is the flannel texture real fabric?
No. The weave texture is printed onto 160 gsm polyester interlock. You get the look of flannel at the weight of a modern jersey, and it dries quickly.
Can we copy a real old uniform?
We can build a design inspired by a vintage look you send us, in your own team name and colors. We do not reproduce trademarked logos or current pro team marks.
How much are retro jerseys?
From $32.99 per jersey at 10 pieces with names and numbers included. At 24–47 pieces in the cart the price is $29.69.
Do the chain-stitch letters stand up off the fabric?
No. They are printed with shading that reads as chain stitch from a few feet away. Raised sewn lettering is on our embroidered jersey page.
Can we get a laced V-neck?
Yes. The lacing is printed by default, with optional real cord lacing on request.
What colors suit a throwback?
Cream, grey heather, navy, maroon, forest green and old gold. Any color prints, but softer shades look more authentic.
Should players size up for a baggy vintage fit?
One size up gives a looser period silhouette. It also adds length, so check the size chart first.
Can we put a printed patch on the sleeve?
Yes. A sleeve patch with a stitched-edge look is printed at no extra charge, like any other logo.
How long does a retro order take?
Production is 2–3 weeks after proof approval and payment. Retro artwork often needs an extra proofing round, so start early.
Can we match retro pants and stirrups?
Yes. Cream or grey pants with a matching stripe and custom socks go in the same cart and share the discount.
What is the minimum order?
10 pieces, any mix of sizes and products.
How do we pay?
We email a PayPal invoice after you approve the proof. We accept PayPal.
