This is the pro-style jersey. The body is sublimated in your colors, then names, numbers and the chest wordmark are cut from tackle twill and sewn on, and small logos are embroidered. It costs a little more and takes 3–4 weeks, and it is the jersey most varsity programs end up wanting.

What is sewn and what is printed

An embroidered jersey is really two processes. The body, stripes and piping are sublimated first. Then the lettering is cut from twill and stitched on, one jersey at a time.

The table shows the standard layout. Sizes are the usual ones for high school and adult teams, and we adjust them for youth jerseys on the proof.

Planning the layout early saves a round of revisions. Our jersey design guide explains number heights, name arcs and where sleeve logos usually sit.

Anything not listed, like a stripe or side panel, stays printed. Sewing twill over a printed pattern is fine, and it is how many pro-style jerseys get a pinstripe body with raised numbers.

How tackle twill is made and sewn

Tackle twill is a sturdy polyester fabric with a diagonal weave. We cut each letter and number from it, layer the outline color underneath, and stitch around every edge with a tight zigzag.

Two-layer twill means a top color and an outline color, like a white number with a navy edge. A third layer adds a second outline, which suits programs with three team colors.

Each letter is sewn rather than bonded. That is why twill survives years of washing that would wear out heat-applied lettering.

Fonts matter more with twill than with print. Very thin serifs and tight script loops are hard to cut and sew, so we thicken them slightly on the proof. Block fonts and bold scripts sew best.

  1. We sublimate and sew the jersey body in your colors.
  2. Twill sheets in your letter colors are cut to the exact shapes on your approved proof.
  3. The layers are placed on the jersey and tacked so nothing shifts.
  4. Every edge is stitched with a zigzag in a matching thread color.
  5. Embroidered logos are sewn last, then each jersey is checked against the roster.

Why twill is worth it for some programs

Twill lettering is thicker, has a visible edge, and does not change the look of the fabric around it. Scouts and parents read it as a varsity-grade uniform.

It also photographs well. Raised letters cast a small shadow, so numbers look sharp in team photos and on the stadium video board.

The trade-off is weight. A twill-lettered jersey weighs about 60 g more than a fully sublimated one. Most players never notice, though pitchers in a hot climate sometimes do.

Alumni games and old-timers' teams often want a vintage design with real sewn letters. Some start from our vintage and retro baseball jerseys and ask for twill lettering on the proof.

  • High school varsity programs that want a traditional uniform
  • Senior and alumni teams who wore twill as players
  • Adult leagues that keep one set of jerseys for several seasons
  • Programs that want their jersey to look clearly different from the travel teams in town

The varsity uniform

Twill fits the high school setting better than anywhere else. Seniors keep these jerseys, photos get framed, and the uniform has to last through several rosters of handing down.

If you are outfitting a whole program, our page on high school baseball uniforms covers jersey and pant sets for varsity and JV.

Ask your athletic director about section rules before you lock in a design. Some sections set limits on sleeve logos and number placement, and twill is harder to change after it is sewn.

Front styles for twill

Twill jerseys come in full-button or two-button fronts. Full-button is by far the most common, because a wordmark across a button placket is the classic look.

On a full-button front, the wordmark is split at the placket and sewn on each side. We line up the letters on the proof so they read as one word when the jersey is buttoned. Our full button-up baseball jerseys page shows the cut and collar options.

Two-button fronts keep the wordmark whole across the chest. That suits long team names, which can look crowded when split by a placket.

Sleeve options do not affect lettering. Short sleeves with a contrast band are the standard, and the band can carry a thin stripe in your outline color.

Embroidered logos and patches

Small logos are embroidered directly into the jersey in up to 12 thread colors, at up to about 4 inches. Larger logos are sewn as twill appliqué or printed instead, and the proof shows which method fits.

A vector file is best for embroidery. If you only have an image, we digitize it for embroidery at no charge.

Thin lines under 1 mm and very small text do not stitch well. We simplify those details on the proof rather than let them blur on the jersey.

Send logo files by email with your roster, or contact our team if you are not sure which file you have. We check it before the proof is drawn.

Embroidery sits flat with a slight sheen. Common placements are the left sleeve, the right sleeve for a flag or memorial patch, and the back of the collar.

Price per embroidered jersey

Embroidered jerseys start at $33.99 with twill names, numbers and one embroidered logo included. There are no setup, digitizing or per-color fees.

The discount uses every piece in the cart, so pants and socks in the same order help everyone reach the next tier. Players also save if the program orders varsity and JV together.

To price twill jerseys with matching pants as one set per player, see our custom baseball uniform sets. The set pricing covers both pieces, and you can ask for twill lettering on the jersey.

Fully printed alternative

If the budget is tighter or your players want the lightest jersey, the fully sublimated baseball jerseys use the same cut and colors with printed lettering at a lower price.

Many programs order twill for varsity and sublimated for JV in the same design. The two sets look alike from the stands, and varsity keeps the raised lettering as a small reward.

Mixed lettering is possible too. Twill names with printed numbers, or twill numbers with a printed wordmark, are all options, and the price adjusts on the proof.

Timeline for a twill order

Twill takes 3–4 weeks of production after you approve the proof and pay the PayPal invoice. That is about a week longer than our printed jerseys, because the lettering is cut and sewn per jersey.

Add 1–2 business days for the proof and 2–5 business days of free ground shipping, or 2–4 inside California. A program in San Diego and the South Bay should plan the same as anywhere else in the state.

For a spring season, aim to approve the proof six to seven weeks before the first game. Orders over 200 pieces take about 4 weeks of production on their own.

Late roster changes cost the most time here. A new name after production starts means cutting and sewing another set of letters, so send the final roster with the proof approval.

Twill order mistakes to avoid

Twill is less forgiving than print once it is sewn. These are the problems we catch most often on the proof.

  • Long last names that need a smaller font than the rest of the roster; send the longest name first
  • Three-layer numbers on youth jerseys, where the outlines crowd a small back
  • Dark twill on a dark body with no outline, which disappears at night games
  • Embroidered logos with tiny text that cannot be stitched cleanly
  • Ordering too close to opening day without allowing the extra week twill needs

Care that keeps stitches crisp

Twill does not peel, but rough laundry can fray stitch edges over time. A few habits keep the lettering looking new for several seasons.

If a stitch ever loosens, do not pull it. Trim the loose thread close to the letter and the zigzag around it will hold.

Stains on twill come out best when treated early. Rinse dirt and grass stains in cold water after the game rather than letting them set overnight in the bag.

Store jerseys on hangers between seasons. Folding a twill number in half over months can leave a crease across the letters.

  • Turn jerseys inside out before washing
  • Use cold water and a gentle cycle
  • Skip the dryer and hang to dry
  • Never iron directly on twill letters
  • Keep jerseys away from Velcro straps in the wash

Embroidered Baseball Jerseys: questions answered

How much do embroidered jerseys cost?

From $33.99 per jersey at 10 pieces, including twill names and numbers and one embroidered logo. At 24–47 pieces in the cart the price is $30.59.

Can the twill numbers be two colors?

Yes. Two-layer twill gives a number with a contrasting outline. A third layer is available for a few dollars more.

How big can the embroidered logo be?

Up to about 4 inches on the sleeve or chest. Larger logos are sewn as twill appliqué or printed, which the proof shows.

Will the twill lettering peel?

No. Each letter is stitched around its full edge with a zigzag. Wash inside out, cold, and skip the dryer to keep the stitches crisp.

Can we get twill names but printed numbers?

Yes. Any combination works, and the price adjusts on the proof.

How long does production take?

3–4 weeks after you approve the proof and pay. That is about a week longer than printed jerseys, since each jersey is cut and sewn.

Are twill jerseys heavier?

Slightly, about 60 g more than a fully printed jersey. Most players do not notice.

What file do you need for the embroidered logo?

A vector file is best. If you only have an image, we digitize it for embroidery at no charge.

Does the wordmark split on a full-button front?

Yes, it is sewn on both sides of the placket. We line up the letters on the proof so the word reads cleanly when buttoned.

Can youth teams order twill jerseys?

Yes. We scale numbers and names down for youth sizes YS–YXL and show the sizes on the proof.

What is the minimum order?

10 pieces, any mix of sizes.

How do we pay?

We email a PayPal invoice after you approve the proof. We accept PayPal.
