Button-Up Baseball Jerseys

Item CBJ-BUTTON · Made to order
From $32.99per piece · names & numbers included · 10-piece minimum

The full-button jersey is the traditional game-day look: a six-button placket, an optional fold-down collar, and a boxier cut that sits over an undershirt. We sublimate the whole front first and then sew the placket, so stripes and lettering line up across the buttons.

Why teams choose the full-button cut

Coaches order button-ups for programs that play in front of parents and scouts. High school varsity, college club teams and men's wood-bat leagues make up most of these orders.

The jersey reads as a proper uniform from the stands. Players can also open it between innings, which matters for teams like those around Fresno, where summer games run hot.

It costs the same as our pullover jersey. You pay for the look you want, not for the extra sewing.

A button-up also photographs well. Team pictures, senior nights and signing days are where this cut earns its keep, because the open collar and placket frame the face better than a crew neck.

  • Six-button front with a reinforced placket and a bar-tacked top button
  • Buttons or snaps in white, black or matched to the trim
  • Optional fold-down collar or a clean round neck
  • Tail hem for tucking, with side vents
  • Names, numbers, logo and sponsor marks included

Printing on a button front

Chest lettering is the thing that goes wrong on cheap button-ups. The script gets split at the placket, and the two halves drift apart.

We print the front as one continuous panel and cut the placket afterwards. Then we sew with a 10 mm overlap, so the alignment holds through the wash.

If your front design is a single word in script, tell us on the proof. We shift it so the button line falls between two letters, not through the middle of one.

Sleeve stripes and side piping follow the same rule. They are printed before the jersey is sewn, so a stripe that starts on the front panel meets its partner on the back at the side seam.

The proof shows the front both as one flat panel and as a sewn jersey. Check the second view. That is where a badly placed letter shows up.

Planning the chest design

A full-button front gives you two half-panels, not one wide chest. That shapes what works best up front.

Short team names of four to eight letters sit well across the placket. Long names often look better as a script that slopes upward, or as a left-chest logo with a number on the right. Our guide on how to design a custom baseball jersey shows the common layouts with measurements.

Front numbers are smaller on a button-up than on a pullover, usually 3 to 4 inches tall. They sit on the right panel, below the end of the script, so the button line never cuts through them.

  • Script team name across both panels, broken between letters
  • Left-chest logo with a front number on the right panel
  • Block letters arched over a small number below
  • A single initial on the left chest for a clean throwback look

Buttons or snaps

Both cost the same and both are sewn to the same reinforced placket. The choice comes down to who wears the jersey and how fast they change.

Snaps suit youth players and teams that switch jerseys between games of a doubleheader. Buttons suit older players and programs that want the classic finish.

Placket color matters most on patterned fronts. If you are ordering pinstripe baseball jerseys with a button front, match the buttons to the stripe color so the placket reads as part of the pattern.

Fit and measurements

The button-up cut is boxier than our pullover. It is made to go over a compression shirt or a long-sleeve undershirt.

If your players wear bulky layers on cold April nights, size up one. Otherwise order the normal size. The full chart for youth and adult is on our jersey size guide page.

Body length is longer than our pullover because of the tail hem. A tucked jersey that pulls out on a swing is the most common fit complaint, and the extra inch at the back solves it.

For youth players, the chest is cut a touch roomier than the youth pullover. A 12U player who wears YL in a tee usually stays in YL here.

Pairing with pants and extras

Most full-button orders come with matching custom baseball pants in white, grey or a team color with a piped side seam. Pants ship in the same box and count toward the same discount tier.

The pants are 220 gsm polyester double-knit with a double knee. The piping on the pants is printed from the same color file as the jersey trim, so the reds and navies match.

A white button-up over grey pants is the most requested home combination we make. Road kits tend to flip it: a team-color jersey over grey or white pants with the jersey color in the piping.

Team pricing

Every jersey includes names, numbers, logo and sponsor marks. There are no setup, art or per-color fees.

The tier depends on total pieces in the order. Jerseys and pants count together, so 12 players in a jersey and pants reach the 24-piece price.

If you need numbers for a board meeting before you have sizes, our team uniform quote request gets you a written total before anything is ordered.

Ordering for a high school program

Varsity and JV often share one design with different numbers. Put both rosters in one order to reach a better tier, and we bag each team separately.

Many schools add a second color for road games. Our high school baseball uniform sets cover home and away kits with pants in one proof.

Twill lettering is available if your school wants stitched letters on the chest. It adds a week, so production runs 3 to 4 weeks instead of 2 to 3.

  1. Collect the varsity and JV rosters in one spreadsheet, with a team column.
  2. Check the section rules on jersey color, numbers and logos before the proof.
  3. Order at least five weeks before the first scrimmage.
  4. Approve the proof, pay the PayPal invoice, and production takes 2 to 3 weeks.
  5. Ask for split delivery if the coaches want boxes at two addresses. It is free.

When a shorter placket makes more sense

A full-button jersey is not the right call for every roster. Players under 11 fumble the buttons, and summer travel teams often want something lighter.

For those teams, the two-button henley-style jersey keeps a finished placket at the neck and costs a dollar less. You can mix both styles in one order.

Common button-up mistakes

We see the same few problems on full-button orders every season. All of them are easy to fix at the proof stage and hard to fix after sewing.

  • A front number placed in the center, where the placket cuts it in half
  • Script lettering that ends too close to the armhole seam
  • White buttons on a white jersey with a thin navy placket trim, which looks unfinished
  • Ordering a size down for a slim look, then finding the jersey will not button over an undershirt
  • Choosing a fold-down collar for a youth team that plays in heat
  • Leaving the collar choice blank, so the proof comes back with a round neck you did not expect

Care for buttons and plackets

The buttons are four-hole polyester, sewn with reinforced thread. The top button has a bar tack because that is the one players pull on.

Button the jersey before washing. An open placket twists in the drum and can stretch the buttonholes. Wash inside out on cold, then hang dry.

Do not hang a wet button-up on a thin wire hanger. The weight of the wet placket stretches the shoulders. A plastic hanger or a flat dry is better.

If a button does come loose, the placket has enough fabric for a home repair. Any matching four-hole button will do.

Button-Up Baseball Jerseys: questions answered

Buttons or snaps: which should we pick?

Buttons look more traditional and suit high school and adult teams. Snaps are faster for young players and for programs that change jerseys between games. Both cost the same.

Does the placket break the chest lettering?

No. We print the front panel in one piece and cut the placket afterwards, so letters and stripes line up across the buttons. The proof shows exactly where the button line falls.

Can we get a collar?

Yes. Choose a fold-down collar or a clean round neck on the proof. The collar can be a solid trim color or printed to match the body.

How much are button-up jerseys?

From $32.99 per jersey at 10 pieces, with names, numbers and logo included. The price drops to $31.34 at 12 pieces and reaches $26.39 at 100.

Are these jerseys loose enough for an undershirt?

Yes. The button-up cut is boxier than our pullover and is made to go over a compression or long-sleeve undershirt. If your players wear bulky layers, size up one.

Can we order a few in youth sizes for bat boys?

Yes. Youth S to XL and adult S to 3XL go in the same order and share the same artwork.

Do you make a two-button version?

Yes, the two-button baseball jersey is a separate product with a shorter placket. It is $31.99 at 10 pieces.

Will the buttons survive machine washing?

They are sewn with reinforced thread and a bar tack on the top button. Button up, wash inside out on cold and skip the dryer, and they last well beyond one season.

What is the minimum order?

10 pieces. Mixed sizes and mixed styles are fine.

When do we pay?

After you approve the proof. We email a PayPal invoice at that point, and nothing is charged at checkout. We accept PayPal.

Can the tail hem be worn untucked?

It can, but the tail is longer at the back by design. Teams that never tuck usually choose a straight hem on a pullover jersey instead.

Can we see a sewn sample before the full order?

For orders of 24 or more, we can sew one sample at the single-piece price and take that amount off the order. It is a good way to check placket alignment on a script front.
