Two shirts, two very different jobs

People land on this page looking for one of two things. Coaches want an undershirt that makes the team's sleeves match. Parents and boosters want the relaxed raglan shirt they remember from their own playing days.

Both start at $26.99, and both are fully sublimated, so any color and any text is included. Past that, they share almost nothing. One is tight and stretchy. The other is loose and casual.

Both count toward the same 10-piece minimum and the same discount tier, so a team can order undershirts for players and raglans for families in one cart.

The fitted undershirt

This is a 160 gsm polyester-spandex knit with four-way stretch, a crew neck and a long sleeve without thumbholes. It sits close to the body so it does not bunch under a jersey.

The shoulder seam is a raglan, so nothing sits on top of the throwing shoulder. Pitchers wear it under vests all season without the sleeve pulling on their delivery.

Order it in a solid team color, or with sleeves in one color and the body in another. A small chest logo is included, though most teams leave the body plain because it is covered.

Pick the sleeve color from the jersey, not from a catalog swatch. We print both from the same color values, so the undershirt sleeve and the jersey trim match under the lights.

Catchers like it too. Gear straps rub less over a smooth stretch sleeve than over bare skin, and the sleeve keeps dirt off the arms on a dusty day.

Sleeve color rules for pitchers

Some leagues require a pitcher's undershirt sleeves to be a solid color that is not white or grey. The idea is that a light sleeve can hide the ball against a light jersey.

That rule is the main reason teams order matching undershirts at all. If every player wears the same solid navy sleeve, nobody gets sent back to the dugout to change.

Rules differ by league and age group, so check yours before you pick a sleeve design. Our summary of Little League uniform rules covers the common ones and what to ask your league.

The safe choice is a dark solid sleeve that matches your jersey trim. Navy, black, maroon and royal all work, and none of them hide the ball.

Pairs with the sleeveless jersey

Vests and undershirts in two sleeve colors give a team two looks from one jersey. Black sleeves one weekend, red the next, same vest.

That is cheaper than two full sets of jerseys, and it keeps the uniform comfortable when the weather turns. In June the vest can go over a short-sleeve shirt instead.

Order two undershirts per player if you plan to rotate colors. Each player then has a clean pair of sleeves for a doubleheader, and the extra shirts help push the cart into a better tier.

If your team is thinking about vests, the sleeveless baseball jerseys page explains the cut and how it sits over an undershirt.

The 3/4 raglan shirt

This is a relaxed 150 gsm knit with contrasting 3/4 sleeves, a crew neck and the team name or logo across the chest. It is the shirt most people picture when they hear "baseball tee."

Players wear it for warm-ups, travel days and team dinners. Parents and booster clubs order it with their player's number on the sleeve or back.

The body is usually white, light grey or a pale team color, with the darker color on the sleeves. Reversing that works too, especially for a black-and-gold team.

Because it is sublimated, the sleeves can be any color. Every shirt can carry different text, and none of that changes the price.

If your fans want the full jersey look with a placket and pinstripes printed on, the baseball jersey t-shirts page has that option instead.

Ideas for the raglan

The raglan has more room for fun than a game jersey. A few setups we print often:

Keep sleeve numbers to about three or four inches tall. On a youth small, anything larger wraps around the arm and becomes hard to read.

  • Team name across the chest and the player's number on the left sleeve
  • "Proud parent of" text with the player's name and number on the back
  • A booster club design with sponsor marks along the lower back
  • Plain team logo on the chest for coaches and staff
  • Grandparent versions in a lighter color so they stand out in the stands
  • Tournament shirts with the event name and date on the sleeve

Sizing the two shirts

Both shirts come in youth YS to YXL and adult S to 3XL. They do not fit the same way, though.

The undershirt is meant to be snug. Order the player's normal size. Going up a size leaves loose fabric at the wrist and under the arm, which defeats the point.

The raglan runs relaxed, like a regular tee. Order your usual t-shirt size, or one up for a roomier look.

Our size guide has chest measurements for both. When in doubt, measure the chest of a shirt the player already likes.

Youth players grow fast. If a season runs into summer travel, a growing 11-year-old might move up one size on the raglan but stay true on the undershirt.

Undershirts for adult and women's teams

Adult league players order the undershirt for a different reason. Many play after work under lights, and a long sleeve makes a late inning in April far more pleasant.

Women's teams often pair it with a women's cut jersey, wearing the undershirt in the trim color. The women's baseball jerseys page shows how that cut sits over a fitted layer.

The undershirt comes in adult S to 3XL. Check the chest chart rather than guessing from a t-shirt size, since this shirt is designed to fit close.

Price by quantity

Undershirts and raglans share one price list. A mix of both still counts as one cart for the discount.

A team of 12 that orders an undershirt per player plus 12 parent raglans reaches 24 pieces. Every shirt then drops to $24.29.

Many coaches add a short-sleeve layer for practice at the same time. Our custom baseball practice shirts share this price list and print from the same team colors.

Layering for cool evening games

California spring nights get cold fast once the sun drops behind the outfield fence. The undershirt is a mid-weight stretch knit, fine for most evening games.

For coastal fields in places like San Francisco, where the fog rolls in by the fifth inning, layer a team hoodie over it in the dugout.

Wash both shirts inside out in cold water and hang them to dry. Stretch fabric lasts longer away from dryer heat.
