How to choose a jersey style

Most teams decide in three steps. Pick the front first, then the fabric weight, then the finish.

If nobody on the team has a strong opinion, our standard sublimated team jersey is the safe default. The table below shows every style in this category with its starting price per piece.

Start with the front: full-button, two-button or pullover

The front decides how the jersey reads from the stands. It also decides how easy it is for a nine-year-old to get dressed in the dugout.

A full-button front looks like a proper uniform and lets players open the jersey between innings. Varsity teams and men's wood-bat leagues usually want the full-button jersey with a sewn placket.

A two-button henley gives you the finished neckline without six buttons. It is the most common choice for Little League and youth travel rosters.

A crew or V-neck pullover has no placket at all. That leaves the chest as one clean panel for a big logo, an arched team name or a front number.

  • Full-button: most formal, easiest to vent, slowest for small kids to put on
  • Two-button: finished look, pullover comfort, sizes easily across a roster
  • V-neck or crew: lightest, fastest drying, best canvas for large chest art

Stripes, piping and traditional patterns

Pinstripes are the classic baseball pattern. They are also the easiest to get wrong, because cheap jerseys let the stripes twist at the side seams and stop at the placket.

We print the stripes before cutting and align every panel on the table. The sublimated pinstripe jersey comes in a standard 1.5 mm stripe, a 1 mm hairline, a 3 mm chalk stripe or a double stripe.

Decide early if the stripes continue onto the sleeves or stop at a solid raglan. Both versions appear on the proof, so you can compare them side by side.

Piping is the quieter option. A printed line down the side seam or around the collar ties the jersey to the pants without adding a pattern.

Retro looks and full-design jerseys

Some teams want a jersey nobody else in the league has. Two styles cover that.

The vintage and retro jersey prints a flannel weave texture, chain-stitch script and felt-look numbers onto modern fabric. It weighs the same as any other jersey and dries just as fast.

For anything else, the fully sublimated design jersey lets you use gradients, skylines, camo sleeves or a sponsor wall. The price stays the same no matter how many colors you use.

Busy designs need discipline in one place: the back number. Keep a solid outline or a plain panel behind it so the umpire and scorekeeper can read it from the plate.

Fabric and weight

Every jersey here is polyester, because sublimation only bonds with polyester fiber. The difference between styles is the knit and the weight.

The standard body is 160 gsm interlock. It has a smooth face that holds fine print. It suits spring leagues and most of the year near the coast.

The lighter 140 gsm interlock is offered on the two-button and V-neck cuts. It cuts a little weight without changing how the print looks.

For real heat, the micro-mesh and open-mesh jerseys let air through the body. Micro-mesh at 130 gsm prints almost as cleanly as interlock. Open mesh at 150 gsm softens very small detail, so we widen outlines on names and numbers.

FabricWeightWhere it fits
Polyester interlock160 gsmDefault game jersey, finest print detail
Lighter interlock140 gsmTwo-button and V-neck cuts in warm weather
Micro-mesh130 gsmSummer travel ball, fine text still reads
Open mesh150 gsmMaximum airflow, bolder outlines needed

Printed lettering or sewn twill

Every style includes printed names, numbers and logos. Printed lettering has no weight, no edge and nothing to peel.

Sewn tackle twill is the other route. On the tackle-twill embroidered jersey, numbers and the chest wordmark are cut from twill and stitched on, and small logos are embroidered.

Twill reads as a varsity uniform from the bleachers. The trade-offs are about 60 g of extra weight per jersey and a longer run. Production takes 3 to 4 weeks instead of 2 to 3.

Many programs split it. Varsity gets twill, JV gets printed lettering in the same design, and the two squads still look like one school.

What is included in every jersey price

The price on each style page is the full price per jersey. There are no setup, art or per-color fees added at the end.

The one exception is a jersey with nothing printed on it. The plain blank practice jersey costs less because it carries no lettering at all.

  • Player name and number on the back
  • Team name or logo on the chest
  • Sleeve numbers and sponsor marks if you want them
  • Unlimited colors, gradients and patterns
  • Artwork help, including redrawing a low-resolution logo
  • A design proof by email in 1 to 2 business days, with unlimited revisions

  6. Production runs 2 to 3 weeks after payment, or 3 to 4 weeks for twill lettering.
  7. Jerseys ship free by US ground in 2 to 5 business days, 2 to 4 inside California.

Sizing notes for jersey styles

Every style comes in youth YS to YXL and adult S to 3XL, and you can mix both in one order. Men's and adult league jerseys also run to 4XL.

The cut changes how a size feels. A full-button jersey is boxier because it sits over an undershirt. A V-neck pullover feels closer at the same chest size.

Retro jerseys use the same pattern as our standard jerseys. Players who want the baggy look of an old flannel uniform should size up one.

Measure two or three players at each end of the roster before you fill in the sizes. The baseball uniform size chart lists chest and length for every size.

Players at 13 and 14 often move into adult S. Order one size up for anyone who will grow through a long travel season.

Budget examples for a 12-player and a 24-player roster

The discount comes from the total pieces in the cart. It counts every style and size together.

A 12-player Little League team usually picks the two-button youth-friendly jersey, which starts at the lowest price of the game jerseys. The table uses the tier prices for each piece count.

  • A second jersey per player doubles the piece count and often moves the whole cart up a tier
  • Orders of 24 or more can get one sewn sample at the single-piece price, credited to the order
  • Spare jerseys with numbers only cost the same as roster jerseys and count toward the tier

California climate and jersey choice

California baseball covers several climates in one season. A jersey that works in Santa Monica in March can be miserable in Bakersfield in July.

Coastal teams in San Diego, Long Beach and the Bay Area play in mild air and evening fog. The 160 gsm interlock suits them, often with a long-sleeve undershirt for night games.

Inland teams in Fresno, Bakersfield, Riverside and the Sacramento area play a lot of baseball above 95°F. For them the lightweight V-neck pullover jersey or a mesh body makes a real difference by the third inning.

Sublimated color is part of the fiber, so strong sun does not crack the print. Dark bodies do run hotter in direct sun, so a heat-heavy schedule is a good reason to choose a white or grey home jersey.

Alternates and second jerseys

Most teams that order a second jersey keep the same cut and change the color or finish. That keeps sizing simple because every player already knows their size.

The camo alternate jersey in team colors is a popular third look for Memorial Day tournaments and appreciation games. Numbers get a 6 mm contrasting outline so they read on the pattern.

Sleeveless vests are the other common alternate. One vest worn over two different undershirt colors gives a team two looks for the price of one jersey and two shirts.

Put every design in one cart. They share one proof round, one invoice and one discount tier.

Common mistakes when choosing a jersey style

These are the problems we see most often on first orders. Each one is easy to avoid at the proof stage.

The most expensive one is a rules problem. Some leagues require sleeves for pitchers. A roster that goes fully into sleeveless vest jerseys may need solid, non-white undershirts for anyone on the mound. Ask your league before you approve the proof.

  • Choosing a six-button front for 8U players who cannot do up the buttons quickly
  • Putting thin script across a button placket without asking us to shift the letters off the button line
  • Using a busy pattern behind back numbers with no outline, so scorekeepers misread them
  • Choosing open mesh with very fine lettering that softens on that fabric
  • Ordering only one size per player at the start of a long travel season
  • Waiting until three weeks before opening day, which leaves no time for revisions

Jersey Styles: questions answered

Which jersey style is cheapest?

Blank jerseys start at $26.99 because nothing is printed on them. Of the printed game jerseys, the two-button style starts lowest at $31.99.

Can we mix different jersey styles in one order?

Yes. Every style counts toward the same 10-piece minimum and the same discount tier, so home, away and alternate jerseys can all go in one cart.

Do pinstripes cost extra?

No. Pinstripes, camo, gradients and retro textures are all printed in the same pass, so they cost the same as a solid body.

How long does an embroidered twill jersey take?

Production for tackle-twill lettering runs 3 to 4 weeks after the invoice is paid. Fully printed jerseys take 2 to 3 weeks.

Is mesh see-through?

Micro-mesh at 130 gsm is close-knit and not see-through on a dark or mid-tone body. Open mesh shows a little skin on white, so most teams wear an undershirt with it.

Which style suits youth players best?

Two-button and V-neck pullovers are easiest for small players to put on. Full-button fronts suit older players and varsity programs better.

Will the chest script line up on a button-up jersey?

Yes. We print the front as one panel and sew the placket afterwards. If your script is one word, we can shift it so the button line falls between letters.

Can we see a physical sample first?

For orders of 24 or more, we sew one sample at the single-piece price and credit it to the order.

Do retro jerseys use real flannel?

No. The flannel texture is printed onto polyester interlock, so the jersey breathes and washes like a modern jersey.

Can we add names and numbers to blank jerseys later?

Yes. Blanks use the same 160 gsm interlock as the game jerseys, so a reorder with names and numbers will match the color exactly.

How should we wash sublimated jerseys?

Turn them inside out, wash cold with like colors and hang or tumble dry low. Skip fabric softener, which can hold sweat odor in polyester.

How do we pay for the order?

We email a PayPal invoice after you approve the proof. Production starts once it is paid.
